Never forget to renew your domain name

For all of you who owns your own domain name, and have work hard to get the proper audience and traffic, i have one advice for you: Never, EVER, forget to renew your domain name. Better yet - if you domain name provider allows you to auto-renew your domain name, make sure you sign up for it - it will save you the hassle and headache in the future in case you forgets to renew your domain name and it expires without you knowing it.

I guessed I learned this the hard way. I have one domain name that recently expired and I didn’t know about it, and I forgot to turn on the auto-renew feature in the domain name control panel. And I lost that domain name now :( How did that happened?

I didn’t bother to read the emails that came in to one of my mailbox, where the reminders to renew the domain name was sent to. After one attempt of logging into the website failed (i rarely access that web - it’s my alumni batch’s website), i quickly went over to check at the domain name control panel and found that the domain name is not there for me to manage! Almost freaked out, I frantically went over the emails, and I didn’t see the multiple reminders sent to remind me. And when the block-out period was over, i tried to register that domain name again, i’m not able to do so as apparently, some bugger has already registered the domain name 1 day earlier than me!

So my advise again to all who own your domain name - always remember to renew your domain name, else you will lose whatever pagerank or traffic that you have built earlier. Don’t say I didn’t forewarn you. Now, let me go and see if there’s other domain names that’s worth considering…. hmmmm

    Aiyor, I can get sleepless night over this cos I have so many domains until I forget what URL. LOL. So I normally pay for three years but hope you remind me again in 2010. LOL. Eh, Keong Hee. I am going to run out of Penang for the weekend until the madness is over baru come back.

    lilian - like that lor… now i have to turn on that auto-renew for this domain liao, and my main blog domain too… i’ll be off from Penang too from tomorrow onwards, most likely will be back awhile on Monday to replenish my clothing supplies before going off again :) Keong Hee Huat Cai to you too! :)
