OD way to ASB investment?

I was just reading something about investing in ASB the other day when another topic somehow distract me from my reading. While it’s still discusses about investing in ASB, but it touches on a topic that i don’t already know yet. So far, i’ve known the few ways you can make money investing in ASB - hard-saving your own money, or take loan to invest in ASB. But using overdraft, or OD in short, to invest in ASB - now that’s something new that i haven’t really heard about.

The premise is simple - you take money out of your OD account at about 6%/annum interest, put in ASB and earn something like 8%/year dividend. While i don’t really have the details yet (still working out the budgeting and planning on this), i saw how the calculations was made and i must say that i’m kinda impressed.

ASB announces dividend & bonus

If you haven’t read around yet, then let me be the one to spill the news to you. This year, ASB has announced 8.00 cent dividend and 1.00 cent bonus. Yep - which other trust funds you know that pays that much (besides LTAT)? I’m kinda already counting my returns this year, and although i wasn’t exactly sure yet, but it’s enough for me to buy bodybuilding supplements for a few years stock. And not that i need it, though :)

Like i used to write (perhaps in one of my related posts below), start saving as that’s the sure-fire way of making money. And with loan schemes offered by banks to help you save, it’s even better. Just don’t think much about how much you are paying the banks for interest - banks need profits too - think of how much you could made in dividends every year, and that dividend would eventually be bearing more dividend in the year to come.

Dividend time

It’s almost that time of the year again. No, not wholesale fashion jewelry sale - although it’s Year End Sales now - but it’s the dividend for ASB time. If you haven’t noticed yet, ASB would be suspended from trading probably next week, and would be reopen for trading again in early January. And it’s about during this time that we’ll found out how much dividend and bonus we would be getting. It has been consistently above 8% for few years now, although i used to remember it hitting higher than 10% previously.

For those eligible and haven’t start investing in ASB, i suggest you start doing at the beginning of next year. At least, you’ll get full-year’s dividend rather than pro-rated. And if you have been considering to get loans for ASB, same advice applies as well. Try to get everything done before the trading got suspended :)

Loan for ASB investment

I guessed I never really wrote about this at all. Amanah Saham Bumiputera, or ASB, is one unit trust that’s created specifically for Bumiputera people in Malaysia. I guessed ASB itself need no introduction as most of the non-Malay friends that I knew heard about ASB before. With relatively high incentive percentage rate, it makes most investors drool at it.

But that’s not the main point for the discussion. I’ll be touching more on ASB loans offered by some banks such as Maybank and Bumiputera Commerce Bank. A lot of people I know were put off by having the idea of taking loans to save money. But I have my points.
